Diwali gifts for students, each with the child's own name
Updated 11 October 2026. For principals, class teachers, pre-primary coordinators and PTAs in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai.
Children treat a gift with their own name on it very differently from a generic one. It goes home, gets shown to the family, and stays on a shelf. For a school, the hard part is not the gift, it is getting 40 names per class right and handing them out without a mix-up. This guide covers that.
1. Start from the class register
- Ask each class teacher for the list as the child is called in class ("Aarav", "Myra K."), not the full register name.
- Where two children share a name, add the initial of the surname. Children notice.
- One sheet per class, one name per line, with the division at the top. The division is what makes hand-out easy.
- Add 2 or 3 spare blank pieces per class for new admissions and a broken piece.
2. Budget per child
NameDiya is ₹1,199 for a pack of 20 named pieces, about ₹60 per child, delivered within Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai. Typical numbers:
- One pre-primary section of 20: 1 pack, ₹1,199
- One class of 40: 2 packs, ₹2,398
- A grade of 4 divisions of 40: 8 packs, ₹9,592
For a whole school or several grades, write to us with the class count and the hand-out date.
3. Safety for younger children
- Give the diya unlit, as a keepsake. A note on the pouch can say it is for the family to light at home with an adult.
- Clay is fragile. For Jr KG and Sr KG, hand the pouch to the parent at pick-up rather than in class.
- Send no wax, oil or matches with the gift.
4. A short line for the pouch
Each pouch carries the child's name and one line of about 40 characters. Lines schools use:
- Happy Diwali from your teachers
- Keep shining bright this Diwali
- From all of us at school, Happy Diwali
- Light up your home this Diwali
More options are in our list of 30 label lines.
5. Plan the hand-out day
- Most schools celebrate on the last working day before the Diwali break. Lock the name lists about 2 weeks before.
- Ask for the order packed class by class, so each teacher gets one bag already sorted.
- Check every name on the proof before printing, not just the first page.
Housing societies
The same works for a society Diwali event for children: use the residents' list by wing and flat, and hand out at the event or at the gate.
